All Groveport Madison High School students have many opportunities to prepare for graduation and life after graduation; Cruiser Accel accelerates students' career and postsecondary readiness. Cruiser Accel is an alternative school for students who need alternative pathways that better serve their current situations and future plans.
During the first semester of the 2023-24 school year, the focus for the students attending Cruiser Accel is on credit recovery. Getting students back on schedule for earning high school course credit is a clear priority during the initial semester at the alternative school. Students work within two online platforms to demonstrate what they've learned with the advantage of having the assistance of GMHS teachers in Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies as well as an intervention specialist. Teachers monitor students' work in the online platforms and work with individual students and with groups of students who need instruction that corresponds with the online instruction and assessment. Credit recovery, however, is just the first of many services that Cruiser Accel will offer.
At Accel students will be especially focused on Work-Based Learning (WBL) and earning graduation seals like the OhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal and Community Service Seal. Other WBL activities include working for local businesses, Groveport Madison Schools, and the City of Groveport. Additionally, Accel students will have Career and Postsecondary Readiness training that includes being remediation free for college, earning an industry-approved credential, and preparing for the military.
Groveport Madison continues to work with partners to make the best use of the more than 9,000 square foot space. Plans include adding classrooms to the interior of the building, creating innovative spaces with a variety of media and tech-based tools and training, building a partner space where businesses can train students on job-specific machinery, and building a teacher preparation program for GMHS students.
