Groveport Madison Alum, Le'Veon Bell, Donates Funds to Purchase Synthetic Athletic Field
We are very excited to announce that Groveport Madison High School alum and Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Le’Veon Bell has committed to donate $750,000 to cover the installation of a synthetic turf athletic field at GMHS. 
Library’s Summer Reading Club Rewards Participants
Members of the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Summer Reading Club, “Be A Hero Read,” will be rewarded with a variety of prizes again this summer. Members are awarded prizes based on the number of hours they spend reading. Everyone from infants to adults may participate.

Groveport Madison High School Class of 2017 Valedictorians
Groveport Madison Schools is proud to announce the Class of 2017 Valedictorians. Each of these seven students earned a top spot in their class through hard work and a commitment to success. Congratulations to all of you! Learn more about these dedicated students below. 
Elementary Gifted Program to Move to Sedalia ES this Fall
Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, the District’s gifted education program will be located in 12 new modular classrooms that are currently being installed at Sedalia Elementary School. 
District Launches 1:1 Technology Program
At the start of the 2017-18 school year, students in grades six through 12 will be issued a Google Chromebook to use for their coursework at school and home.

The District is making the technology available to students in order to promote creativity and collaboration in the classroom and better prepare students for college and career, said Garilee Ogden, director of curriculum, instruction, and professional development. The devices will provide students access to the most up-to-date information for learning and allow for learning to extend beyond the classroom, she said.
Cruiser Softball Team Wins the Ohio Capital Conference - Runners-up in District Final
The members of the Cruiser Softball team continually show up ready to work and it pays off, says Coach Chris Downing.

The team, which won the Ohio Capital Conference last month, also were the runners-up in the district tournament final held at Pickerington Central on May 20. They lost to the Lancaster Gales softball team 5-4, on Saturday, May 20. “They’re excited about winning the league,” said Downing, who became head coach of the team last year.
Free Summer Lunch Program Begins June 6
The Ohio Summer Food Service Program will provide free lunches to kids from 1-18 years old beginning June 6. Everyone is welcome to receive a free lunch regardless of income. There is no paperwork or proof of income required. 
Free Groups Offered to Middle and High School Students This Summer
Concord Counseling Services, in partnership with Groveport Madison Schools is offering a variety of FREE Summer Groups to middle and high school students. The Groups will be held at the Groveport Madison District Service Center (DSC) at 4400 Marketing Place, Groveport, OH.

Group topics include classes on exploring identity and maintaining positive self-esteem, recognizing emotional triggers to feelings of stress, sadness and anger, conflict resolution, and learning to be an “upstander” rather than a bystander when witnessing bullying.
2017 Back-to-School Immunization Clinics Available
Franklin County Public Health is offering Immunization Clinics at 10 different locations every month. Appointments are required and slots are filling up quickly. Beginning Aug. 5, additional evening and weekend clinics also will be offered. 
05-25-17 New High School Construction Update
It’s hard to believe that just a year ago there was a big pile of dirt where the new high school was to be constructed. Today, more than 90 percent of the concrete block work is complete and more than 15 percent of the exterior brickwork is complete. It’s amazing how far we’ve come in such a short time. 
Protect Your Family from Measles
Measles can be dangerous, especially for children. Measles is very contagious and can make children so sick they have to go to a hospital—or even die.

In response to inquiries regarding the recent measles outbreak in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Franklin County Public Health (FCPH) has partnered with Columbus Public Health to create a flyer and info card about measles. There IS NOT currently an outbreak of measles in Ohio or Franklin County.
Schools Will Dismiss 45 Minutes Early on June 1
Just a reminder, Groveport Madison Schools will dismiss students 45 minutes early on the last day of school. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer. 
Senior Spotlights Helped Parents Celebrate the Class of 2017
To showcase our graduates, the District launched a special Facebook campaign, this year. The “Senior Spotlight” campaign invited parents of graduating seniors to submit a baby photo and a current photo of their student, along with a short message of congratulations. The campaign has been a tremendous success, with thousands of visitors coming to our Facebook page to see the pictures and read the messages. 
Remember to Pick Up Students’ Medication Before School Ends
Parents of students who have medication(s) stored at their child’s school are reminded to pick up all meds no later than 2 p.m., on Thursday, June 1. Medications should be picked up in the school’s health clinic.
