October 2023 Awards

Groveport Madison Schools is excited to launch the Above and Beyond Award, an award designed to recognize the unsung heroes among our classified staff who exemplify extraordinary dedication and commitment to the betterment of our District.

These individuals stand out for going beyond the call of duty to create an environment where success thrives. Their actions extend beyond the confines of their designated roles, and their impact resonates far and wide, impacting the lives of students, colleagues, and the entire educational community.

Join us in celebrating those who fulfill their roles and elevate them to new heights, embodying the spirit of excellence that defines our District.

Chris Reed and Alexis Blain
Alexis Blain
Secretary, Middle School South

"Alexis has always had the kindest heart. She would do absolutely anything for anyone. From paying kids' fees at the end of the year to giving them a pep talk to improve their day or even staying after school to be sure a student gets picked up. She is truly inspiring!

Every day, many kiddos like to make a pitstop in the office just to say hi, give her a hug/high five, or to give her something they made. The impact she has made not only on kids but the staff just leaves me speechless. She never fails to make anyone smile or laugh. She is just downright genuine.

She can do 10 different things at once and not break a sweat. I think Alexis deserves this award because she does not let anything come between her, her job, or the kids. She makes everyone feel loved and appreciated. She is very dedicated, and it shows more and more every day. I could go on and on, but I shall not (haha). All in all, Alexis is amazing and deserves the world."

Chris Reed and Brandy Gibbs
Brandy Gibbs
Secretary, Groveport Madison High School

"Brandy is the rock of the high school. She absorbs so many job duties in addition to tackling her own job. She ALWAYS gets things done quickly and efficiently. Students, staff, and families are well taken care of with Brandy at our front desk. She is always checking on the counselors to make sure we have everything we need.

Brandy has worked in tournaments for a number of years. She is one of the main parents serving football and volleyball meals. She is the type of person every school and community needs to go above and beyond their responsibilities. I highly recommend her for this award, which I think is a cool idea. Go Cruisers!"

Chris Reed, Shannon Whisman, and Stephanie Owens
Shannon Whisman & Stephanie Owens
Custodians, Asbury Elementary

"I am thrilled to nominate Shannon and Stephanie, the custodial team at Asbury Elementary, for the "Above and Beyond" award. In all my years working in education, I can confidently say that they are the most exceptional custodial duo I've had the privilege to work with. Asbury Elementary consistently maintains a spotless appearance, even with our crazy kiddos making daily messes. However, what truly sets Shannon and Stephanie apart is their unwavering commitment to supporting our school community in various ways.

They go beyond their official duties to assist teachers and staff. Whether it's helping select the perfect classroom furniture, lending a hand when you're juggling multiple tasks, or providing a sympathetic ear during challenging times, they are always there for our team. Shannon and Stephanie exemplify the spirit of teamwork, and their dedication extends far beyond their job descriptions. They are instrumental in ensuring the well-being of our school and its community, making 'Every Student. Every Lesson. Every Day.' possible. Describing their deserving nature for the 'Above and Beyond' award as an understatement would be a gross understatement itself."

Rick Clark
HVAC, District Service Center

"Rick goes above and beyond his job duties, but let's start with what he does as 1 person. He maintains:

18 boilers, 7 chillers, 10 refrigerant systems, 190 VRF's,
4 cooling towers, 4 generators, and much more.

Additionally, Rick cleans/replaces over 700 filters per year. He has resolved numerous electrical issues, including current electrical issues that current outside contractors weren't able to resolve.

He monitors each building 24 hours a day and resolves any issues regardless of if he has to come into the District. His wealth of wisdom has not only saved the District hundreds of thousands of dollars but he's done it all on his own."
