Student Prepares for Carnegie Hall Performance

GM High School junior, Simmeon Perry is planning to travel this summer. Simmeon is part of the All-Star Brass and Percussion band preparing to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 17. Simmeon, playing the cornet, will be appearing with other youth ensembles from Germany, Thailand, and California in Carnegie Hall’s inaugural “Sounds of Summer” International Music Festival.

Founded by Dr. Eric W. Aho, the All-Star Brass and Percussion began in 1986. Since that time, the group has earned a reputation for excellence, becoming the most awarded brass band organization in North America. All-Star members represent approximately forty schools from eight central Ohio counties and have performed extensively throughout the Midwest, eastern United States, and Canada.

In order to join the band, Simmeon first had to be nominated by the band director and then complete the audition process. He joined the All-Star Brass and Percussion band in December of last year so this is his first trip to New York with the band. When asked how he feels about performing at Carnegie Hall, Simmeon excitedly responded, “I’m making history for Groveport and also making leaps for myself as a musician.”

After high school, Simmeon plans to continue with music. He intends to major in Music Education and minor in Music Composition at Berklee College of Music.
