GMHS & Cruiser Academy to Combine Strengths

Groveport Madison High School and Cruiser Academy Students and Families:

As you may be aware, Groveport Madison High School (GMHS) and Cruiser Academy currently operate as two entirely separate high schools. GMHS operates like a traditional high school, with college and career pathways, while Cruiser Academy operates solely as an online credit recovery school.

To better meet the needs of all Groveport Madison High School students, beginning next school year, we will combine the strengths of both schools, merging them together. Both locations will operate as one school, but each will provide specific programming and educational delivery models that better address all students’ needs and ensures that all high school students meet Ohio’s requirements for graduation. Going forward, GMHS will be referred to as “Main Campus," and Cruiser Academy will be referred to as the GMHS "Cruiser Campus.”

The GMHS Main Campus will continue to offer the same programming and traditional delivery format that it is currently providing. At the Cruiser Campus, the District is adding certificated teachers (our staff members), who will use online and other instructional methods to meet the needs of students with wide-ranging academic needs. Also, we will be adding counseling and nursing services at the Cruiser Campus. These changes will ensure that students with varied educational needs are being served in a more effective, hands-on approach.

The District will determine the placement of students at each campus based on each student’s academic, social-emotional, or other needs. Students will be sent their course schedule in the mail indicating which campus they will be attending. In most cases, students currently attending Cruiser Academy will continue to attend at the Cruiser Campus next year; however, some current GMHS students also may be assigned to the Cruiser Campus, based on the number of credit hours he/she has earned to date.
