Madison Fourth Graders Are Having An Awesome Year!

In Social Studies, we have been studying Native American groups from Ohio.  We were very excited that Josie Green was able to bring in a collection of arrowheads that she collected with her father as well as some arrowheads that he made.  Josie was able to share these with all of the fourth grade classes and all students were very excited!
In Science, we have been studying the steps in the Scientific Method and how weathering and erosion change the shape of our Earth and create different landforms. We are beginning to study different ecosystems and we will relate how weather and natural disasters such as hurricanes and volcanoes affect the ecosystems.
In Math, we have been learning all about place value and also adding and subtracting multi-digit whole numbers. Students have been working hard to solve word problems involving multiple steps to get the answer. They are becoming professionals at breaking down the word problem in order to solve it! We are looking forward to mastering this standard in order to move onto more 4th grade math skills!
In Language Arts, we have been working on the skills needed to write a multi-paragraph essay that meets 4th grade standards. Each of the students just finished an essay about their class and all of the amazing students in it. During the writing process, they got to find out about the many special talents the other students in their class have. We have hard-working athletes, singers, dancers, actors, excellent students, bakers, gamers, and friends. As one student put it,
"In conclusion, there are really talented, unique, and phenomenal students that believe they will be in the NBA, MLB or NFL. You can accomplish anything no matter who you are, if you're a boy, a girl, tall, short or conditioned. If you believe, you can accomplish anything." Ask your child to share their writing with you!
