Guidance News

My name is Ms. Dressel and I am the new school counselor at Madison. To tell you a little about me, I am originally from Centerville, OH, just south of Dayton. I am a two time graduate of The Ohio State University, and I have experience working as a behavioral health aide at St. Vincent Family Center, as well as a tutor/mentor for students in Columbus City schools. In my spare time I enjoy taking walks, trying new recipes, doing art projects, and spending time with family and friends. I come from a family of educators, which is a large part of why I chose school counseling as a career. I am passionate about working with elementary students to build social skills, emotional intelligence, and a love for learning. I believe that learning to identify and control emotions is a crucial life skill that should be encouraged from a young age. I also believe that every student deserves to have at least one supportive adult at school who encourages and believes in them.
I have so enjoyed starting to get to know all of the wonderful kids here, even if it has been from behind a computer screen. I can already tell this is a great community, and I am lucky to be a part of it. While we are learning virtually, I am available for individual google meets with students, and I will be visiting class meetings once a month for guidance lessons. September’s lessons were all about school success and making the best of this unique and challenging school year. You can find summaries of these lessons on my Google site, which can be found in Google classroom. I’m excited to continue getting to know the students and families at Madison this year and beyond! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
