Counselor's Corner

Hello Asbury families!

My name is Shelby Smith and I am the new School Counselor at Asbury Elementary. Though I am new to Asbury, I am not new to Groveport Madison Schools. I had the honor of interning over at Middle School Central last year and I’m excited to make the transition to the primary level. I come to Asbury with a wealth of knowledge, having graduated with my B.S. in Psychology and Family and Child Sciences from Florida State University in 2019 and my M.A. in Counselor Education from The Ohio State University this past May. I am so excited to begin working with your children and find new ways to continue supporting you! As a school counselor, I provide a wide variety of services to meet children’s academic, social, and emotional needs. These services include individual and small group counseling, crisis counseling, monthly classroom guidance lessons focused on socio-emotional learning, and coordinating student 504 plans. I also work closely with other support staff, such as our school Social Worker, Lakiesha Sweeney, in order to provide the best care and support to meet the needs of students. Additionally, part of my job involves consulting with parents/guardians, caregivers, and teachers to brainstorm ways to overcome barriers and find the best means to help students be successful. Overall, I serve as an advocate for ALL students by putting support in place to help them reach their highest potential.

If you have any questions about me and my role, or if there are ways I can better support you or your student, please do not hesitate to contact me! [email protected]
