Welcome Back!

District to Resume In-Person Classes for all Grades for the 2021-2022 School Year

Boy with "GM" Jacket
All students will be returning to in-person, face-to-face classes this year. At present, we are not planning to offer any online classes through Cruiser Digital Academy. If the State of Ohio or Franklin County Public Health requires schools to resume online classes due to COVID-19 or other concerns, the District has a plan in place. Information on this plan will be shared as needed.

Health and Safety Practices
The District will continue to follow the State of Ohio and Franklin County Public Health guidelines. Recognizing the increased risk that the COVID-19 Delta variant represents to children, particularly to those 12 and under who are too young to be vaccinated, Groveport Madison Schools is mandating all students and staff wear masks, if not only to protect themselves but to protect others around them. The District-wide (PreK-12) mask mandate will begin on Monday, August 23rd. We hope this mandate is temporary, and we will continue to work with medical experts to determine how long this mandate will be in place.

Masks must be worn at all times when indoors and when on a school bus. If an individual cannot wear a mask due to medical issues, a physician's note explaining why they cannot wear it will exempt them from this mandate. At present, we are not mandating masks be worn outdoors.

Local public health authorities have rescinded the requirement to maintain six-foot social distancing. The District will, to the best of its abilities, maximize available space to increase the distance between students and staff. School buses will resume normal seating practices as allowable by Ohio law.

The District will continue to promote handwashing and respiratory etiquette through in-class instruction, announcements, and signage. Sinks and touchless faucets have been installed over the summer to ensure safe hand washing. HVAC systems also have been fitted with systems to ensure air is filtered and purified in all of our schools.

Daytime custodial crews will continue to clean general-population areas regularly throughout the day, focusing on high-touch areas. Classrooms will be disinfected after each class change. Classrooms and office areas will be thoroughly cleaned nightly, focusing on disinfecting high-touch surfaces.

Staggered Start Schedule
Last year, nearly one-third of the District's students took online classes through Cruiser Digital Academy, which meant that many students never stepped foot inside their school. As a result, we plan to extend the grade levels of our staggered start schedule for the 2021-2022 school year to help acclimate students who changed schools.

  • Monday, August 16 – First Day and Orientation for Grades 1, 6, 7, 9 and 10
All first, sixth, seventh, ninth, and tenth (1st, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th) graders will report on their regular schedule for all-day orientation sessions. Not reporting:  kindergarten, second, third, fourth, fifth, eighth, eleventh, and twelfth (kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 11th, and 12th) graders.

  • Tuesday, August 17 – First Through Twelfth Graders Report
All first through twelfth graders report for school on their regular schedule. Not reporting: Kindergarten (see Kindergarten Staggered-Start Schedule).

Kindergarten Assessments and Staggered-Start Schedule

Kindergarten Assessment Appointments
Before the start of school, all kindergarteners will participate in an informal assessment. This assessment helps our teachers become acquainted with each kindergartener's abilities and needs and allows us to determine classroom placement and whether any other services may be necessary to ensure the child’s success.

Kindergarten assessments will take place on either August 16 or 17. By Wednesday, August 4, schools will notify parents of the date on which their kindergartener is to participate in their assessment. Only the student will attend during their scheduled appointment time.

Kindergarten Staggered-Start Days
To create a smooth start to the school year, we have staggered the start of the school year for all kindergarten students, with half of the students attending one day and the other half attending the second day. Please note the following schedule:

  • August 18: Kindergarteners with last names beginning with A-L will attend school all day. Students with the last names beginning with M-Z DO NOT attend.
  • August 19: Kindergarteners with last names beginning with M-Z will attend school all day. Students with the last names beginning with A-L DO NOT attend.
  • August 20: First Day for all Kindergarteners
All kindergartners attend school for the full-day schedule.
Should you have questions, please contact your child’s school.

2020-2021 Immunization Requirements

Part of the Ohio Department of Health's mission is to ensure that all Ohio schools provide safe and healthy environments for students and staff alike. The Department of Health requires that all students be immunized before enrolling in school. Contact your child's healthcare provider to make sure your child’s vaccinations are up-to-date. A list of immunizations is available on our Health Services webpage or the Ohio Department of Health's website.

Immunization Requirements for Incoming 7th and 12th Graders
A booster dose of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis) and MCV4 (Meningococcal) vaccine is required before entry into the seventh grade and incoming twelfth graders must have a second dose of the MCV4 (Meningococcal) vaccine before returning to school. If your child has not had these immunizations, please contact your healthcare provider or the Franklin County Public Health Department by visiting or calling 614-525-3719. Childhood and adult immunization clinics are available through the Franklin County Public Health Department. Appointments are required. For details and clinic locations, click here.
