Special Education

Groveport Madison Schools offers a wide spectrum of services to students with disabilities between the ages of 3 to 22. Services range from inclusion support to specialized classroom settings. Students are served within the district’s schools as well as at specialized programs located throughout Central Ohio. The department complies with all State of Ohio and federal guidelines in the delivery of services to students with disabilities.

The evaluation process provides staff and parents with information regarding the educational needs for each specific child. Should special education services be deemed appropriate, the Special Education Department staff and teachers work with parents to determine the most effective and appropriate level of assistance for each individual child.

Identification/Evaluation Process

Request

Written requests for evaluation shall be sent to the building principal, special education supervisor, or school psychologist.

For requests for students ages 3-5, please contact Lil' Cruiser Preschool and email Amanda Burnett with your student's name and your contact information.

For students in kindergarten or older, please email your building principal and cc: the appropriate coordinator as shown below on this page. In the email, share your contact information and your student's name and school.

Your request will be shared with the appropriate person (school psychologist/speech pathologist) and they will be in contact with next steps.

Groveport Madison Schools contracts with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio for some specialized transition programs for secondary students with disabilities. Students may also receive assistance through programs offered in cooperation with the Franklin County Board of MRDD.

Groveport Madison Schools is committed to the identification, location, and evaluation, as required by IDEA and federal regulations, of all children between the ages of 3 and 22 who may have disabilities. Disability, in this instance, means such conditions as cognitive disability (mental retardation), a hearing impairment, a speech or language impairment, a visual impairment, a serious emotional disturbance, and orthopedic impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, and other health impairment, a specific learning disability, deaf-blindness, or multiple disabilities. staff qualifications

The Special Education Department is staffed with highly trained professionals dedicated to student progress in achievement and independence. All teachers and administrators are licensed or certified by the Ohio Department of Education. Continuing education requirements assure that staff receive and use updated knowledge of best practices in the instruction and education of their students.
