At the December 8 Board
of Education meeting, the Board offered a three-year superintendent contract to
Deputy Superintendent, Bruce Hoover, to start August 1, 2012 and run through
July 31, 2015. In August, Superintendent
Scott McKenzie announced that he would step down effective July 31, 2012.
Hoover has been with the district since September 1, 2010.
Previously, Hoover has worked at the Education Service
Center of Central Ohio since 2008 as a facilitator for the Ohio School
Improvement Process. He has additional
experience as a Director of Curriculum and Instruction for North Union Local
Schools and as a teacher in Indiana. With a Bachelor of Science degree from
Tri-State University in Indiana and a Master of Science degree from Indiana
University, Hoover maintains professional memberships in Ohio Association of
Elementary School Administrators, School Study Council of Central Ohio and
Batten Disease and Research Association.
McKenzie has been with Groveport Madison Schools since 1978
when he started as a guidance counselor at Middle School South.Among his many job titles, he has been,
Principal, Curriculum Director, Public Relations Director and Technology
Director, as well as Business Manager.Along
with his duties as superintendent, McKenzie also serves on the Board of
Directors for the Education Council.
About his replacement, McKenzie says, “ I have had the
pleasure of working with Bruce for the past year.I have been able to observe him in a variety
of situations and I find that he has a high level of energy, is friendly and
approachable, and most importantly, has a good vision and focus for Groveport
Madison Schools. He has all of the
attributes to be a good leader for this district.”
Board President, Mary Tedrow says, “Bruce was the perfect candidate
for Groveport Madison Schools.He was
our first choice for deputy superintendent in September 2010. He has experience
as an administrator, working with negotiations, grant writing, curriculum development and is familiar with our schools.”
Regarding his new position, Hoover says, “I want the schools
in this district to be places where the parents and the community can join
together to serve a variety of our students needs.Over my years in education, I have found that
the difference between successful and unsuccessful schools lies in the
commitment and efforts of the organization to connect students, parents, staff
and the community to provide a learning environment that is both unique and
engaging for all students regardless of socio-economic levels or student
abilities. We need to continue our efforts to strengthen our curriculum and
instruction so that each of our students receive a sound instructional base and
have choices that enable them to accelerate their learning, It is also
important that parents and students feel safe and are safe in our schools.”
