Last week, during a routine morning drop-off at Asbury Elementary, kindergarten aide Ms. Liz Wallace noticed something out of the ordinary. A parent who usually walks his children to the building was not with them.
Ms. Wallace acted quickly, asking the children where their father was. They informed her that their father needed help. Ms. Wallace immediately located the parent’s car and found the parent unresponsive inside.
Fortunately, with the help of a nearby parent, 911 was contacted quickly. Principal Ryan Wells waited with the father until the paramedics arrived.
The father, who has diabetes, was experiencing a severe drop in his blood sugar levels. The paramedics provided treatment, including sugar and IV fluids. He could walk into the building with assistance and was incredibly grateful for the swift actions of those around him. He was visibly relieved and thankful for the support.
This Asbury parent expressed his deep appreciation to Ms. Wallace, the parent who helped, and his children for their quick actions.
We are also thankful for the quick actions of everyone involved. Safety is our top priority, and this incident serves as an example of how situational awareness and a strong community bond provide critical action during an emergency. We are thankful Asbury is full of people that are quick to heroic action.
