Glendening celebrates Peace Day

Glendening elementary students had their annual Peace Day celebration on Friday, September 23. Peace Day is a day celebrated by countries nationwide on September 21st every year. There are many ways that people can celebrate this day, but our school chooses to celebrate with the Pinwheels for Peace movement. Every Glendening student decorates and builds a pinwheel in art class. Each grade level is given a different prompt on how to decorate their pinwheel before they construct it.

Our building designates a day every year to celebrate Peace Day by having a schoolhouse meeting assembly in the morning to talk about what peace means and how we can be peaceful in our day to day lives. Afterwards, all classes go outside and place their pinwheels on the front lawn to create an art display that everyone can enjoy for the day. We also have a moment of mindfulness together as a school where students are taught how to take time to focus on their breath and how they are feeling in the moment so that they can be calm.
