Student Advisory Committee (SAC) Meetings Underway Across District

Student Advisory Committee (SAC) meetings have begun across Groveport Madison Schools, with students setting goals for this year.

At Groveport Madison High School, SAC met under the guidance of Board of Education President Seth Bower, and was joined in attendance by Vice President LaToya Dowdell-Burger, Director of Special Projects Dr. Chris Green, Deputy Superintendent Paul Smathers, and GMHS Principal Jeff Altman. Students elected their leadership team for the year, appointing Alexis Blackburn and Aissata Dia as co-presidents, Adama Diallo as vice president, and Noorah Omar as secretary.

The council reflected on key achievements from the previous year, including the introduction of a Hispanic Heritage Month presentation this past November, and the launch of "Cruiser Crazies" to boost school spirit during athletic events. During an open forum, students raised concerns on important topics of school safety, academic achievement, and school culture. Students are interested in increasing positive reinforcement to improve Cruiser Pride.

At the middle school level, SAC met at Middle School North. Officers elected during this meeting included Rylee Page as president, Jayden Smalley as vice president, and Jesse Lutz as secretary. The group shared excitement about contributing ideas that would impact their schools.

Elementary SAC members gathered at Dunloe Elementary with Board of Education member Libby Gray. Students, representing schools from across the district, focused on concerns related to student behavior and technology use.

The Student Advisory Councils provide students with a valuable opportunity to voice their concerns and collaborate on meaningful change throughout the school district.
