The spirit of giving shines bright this holiday season at Groveport Madison Schools!

Groveport Madison High School students and staff came together to support the Groveport Madison Human Needs Adopt-A-Family program, surpassing their fundraising goal and making a significant impact on our community.

The school rallied around a coin war fundraiser, where classes competed to see who could raise the most money. Organized by Student Council and led by advisor Ms. Devyn Brunner, the total reached an incredible $6,008.74! A special shout-out goes to Mrs. Chelsea Alkire's Cruiser Time class, who took first place by raising an impressive $1,141.40.

Another huge thank-you goes to Mrs. Tina Villanueva's classes and alumni, who collectively contributed $1,722.74.

The Student Council didn’t stop there. After school, members met with Groveport Madison Human Needs board member Lori Cuthbert to shop for items on Adopt-A-Family wish lists. Their shopping included new clothes, special gifts, and breakfast and lunch staples. This ensures these families receive the support and care they need this holiday season.

Student Council President Jaila Clark, a dedicated council member for the past two and a half years, joined in the holiday shopping spree. Her commitment to giving back extends beyond our school, and has been volunteering with Groveport Madison Human Needs for the past two years. This year, she serves as a board member of the organization. Reflecting on her experience, Jahlia shared that her favorite part is volunteering at Abundance’s Alley, the holiday headquarters where families receive support from the organization.

In our other schools, younger students also participated in giving. At Glendening Elementary School students focus on a life skill each month. December’s skill was kindness. Students were challenged to donate their spare change for a good cause, and raised an impressive $2,847.87!

Organized by Title I teachers, Mrs. Barbara Ling, Mrs. Lynn Yurko, and Mrs. Danielle Phillips, the fundraiser will help at least a dozen families in need. After days of counting, it was declared that the second grade won the challenge. Groveport Madison Human Needs Director Debbie Miller stopped by their classroom to pick up the donations and celebrate the achievement.

We acknowledge and thank all of our students and staff that have found ways to give back this year, through direct donation or with their time. You show others what it means when we say, “It’s Great to be a Cruiser!”
