District's Preschools Earn 5-Star

For the second time in the past three years, all three of the District’s preschool programs have earned “5-Star Step Up to Quality Ratings” from the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services evaluation teams.

“We are very proud of this accomplishment,” stated Groveport Madison Superintendent Garilee Ogden. “Our special education department and the preschool staff at Asbury, Groveport, and Sedalia Elementary Schools are committed to the care and education of our preschoolers, and they have worked very hard to maintain this 5-Star rating for the second time in a row.”

Step Up to Quality is a program developed to measure consistent quality within all preschool, daycare, and school-age programs that receive state funding.  All programs located within public school settings are required to earn, at minimum, a 3-Star rating.  Areas in which the Groveport Madison preschool team excelled were in staff education levels, professional development, curriculum planning, parent involvement and interactions, and classroom environments.  The 5-Star rating is the highest possible score, and it remains in place for the next three years.
“The teachers and staff within this program have worked diligently to be prepared for random, unannounced visits by the ODE/ODJFS program evaluator,” said the District’s Special Education Director Mitzi Boyd. “This year, each classroom had a surprise visit the week before winter break. During this visit, student and staffing files, classroom ratios, program processes, curriculum programming/planning, classroom environment and interactions, as well as health and safety requirements were thoroughly reviewed. The preschool team has once again stepped up and made the District proud!”
