Helping Fight Childhood Cancer Goal of GMHS
Helping Fight Childhood Cancer Goal of GMHSThe high school’s National Honor Society is on a mission to help the fight against childhood cancer. Fundraising efforts planned this spring are focused on raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The mission of the internationally recognized hospital is “to find cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases through research and treatment. And no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.”

Founded by entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962, St. Jude Hospital was named for St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of hopeless causes. The building of the facility was Thomas’ way of fulfilling a promise after praying to the saint, “help me find my way in life, and I will build you a shrine.”

Treatments introduced by scientists and physicians working at the hospital have contributed to increasing survival rates for children with cancer from less than 20 percent in 1962 to 80 percent today.

The NHS has teamed up with local businesses to help raise funds. Here’s how the Groveport Madison community can help, too. A portion from the sale of your restaurant purchases on specific dates will be donated to St. Jude on behalf of the NHS.

The following restaurants have graciously agreed to help with this noble cause:
  • Flyers Pizza, Groveport All day, Tuesday, May 6, 2014. When you pick up your order, please mention the fundraiser and 15% of your purchase price will be donated.

  • Chipotle, Tussing Road location – from 5-9 PM on Monday, May 19, 2014. Please present the attached flyer when you pay so we get a percentage of the sale.
