Creating a Positive and Successful District Culture
kids huggingCreating a safe and positive culture and climate in all of our schools is extremely important to us. We are working to create an environment where students feel safe and well-cared-for and where they believe in their ability to take the necessary action to accomplish the tasks before them.

Mindset training focuses on helping students and adults develop attributes such as persistence, resilience, optimism, flexibility, and empathy. These attributes directly affect a student’s sense of well-being and his/her academic success.

In the past year, the District has provided professional development in mindset training for our school-based administrative staff, teachers, and counselors. Also, several of our high school athletic coaches voluntarily participated in the training during the summer. The information also was presented to all of our bus drivers shortly before school started. This year, we expanded the training to include all of our clerical and support staff.

To gauge our success and determine additional needs, we conduct a student and staff climate/culture and safety survey each autumn and spring. In a little more than a year after launching this effort, we already see positive results across our schools and the District Office. Students and staff alike are indicating that our school and work environments are more welcoming and tolerant, and that students and staff are feeling safer and more confident when going about their days.

This is an effort in which we believe very strongly. We are confident that this work will lead to higher levels of student achievement and more positive and enjoyable experiences in our schools and offices.
