GMHS Freshmen Excel at Model United Nations

Twenty-two GMHS freshmen were recognized by the Groveport Madison Board of Education for their participation in the Ohio Model United Nations Leadership Program (OMUN). This three-day global education simulation experience helps students learn about the operations of the United Nations and its role as the world’s largest international peacekeeping and humanitarian organization.

Through the process of role-playing, students become representative delegates of a selected nations. The students research, write, and present issues that affect the nations and peoples of the world. They also participate in global education contests and debate current issues from the United Nations’ agenda.

More than 2,500 students from across Ohio and other states, including Kentucky, Arkansas, New York and Indiana attended the conference.

Valerie Ansong, Megan Barr, Raya Carrington, Lilly Clements, Rocky Donald, Natalie England, Abby Holdren, T.J. Hughes, McDaniel Jean, Jaxson Kelly, Nevin Montgomery, Braylee Moore, Kara Snyder, and William Traylor.

Six of the students, Makayla George, Kyle Jennings, Cameron Leitwein, Sonya Showman, Christina Thurber, and Keller Weston were recognized as “Outstanding Resolution Winners,” by placing in the top 10 out of 182 resolutions presented at the conference. In addition, A.J. Gacnik and Jacob Ray were recognized as “Leadership Award Winners.”
