Energy-Efficient High School Nets Savings of $80,000!

At the January 9th Board of Education meeting, representatives from American Electric Power (AEP) presented the District’s Treasurer with a check in the amount of $79,324.43. The check represents the electricity usage savings associated with the new high school when compared to the electrical usage at the old high school building.

From the outset of the new high school's design process, creating an energy efficient building was at the forefront of the District’s planning. The use of LED lighting, high-efficiency windows and mechanical systems, and high-performance insulating materials have resulted in a much more efficient structure than the former high school - even when considering the new building is 100,000 square feet larger than the old building. A savings of nearly $80,000 is quite an accomplishment, and one in which we should all be proud.
