The New GMHS – In the Final Stretch!

There is an incredible sense of excitement and anticipation for the opening of the new high school. For the most part, the construction phase of the project is wrapping up, with the project’s architect and the construction manager carefully working through their “punch lists” to ensure all of the work is complete to their exacting specifications.
 
At this point, rooms are being cleaned, floors are being waxed, and furniture and equipment arrive on an almost daily basis. At the same time, health and building inspections have commenced, and our staff is being trained to use and maintain the various electrical and mechanical systems.

01.12.2018 Construction Update

In just about five months the District will take possession of the new high school. The athletic wing has been painted and flooring is being installed. Work continues in the dining commons, where the ceiling trusses have been covered in wall board and painting has begun. Exterior windows are also arriving on a regular schedule, with installation begining from the north side of the building and moving toward the south academic wings. Fixtures and cabinets are being installed in the academic wings and low-voltage wiring is being strung throughout the area.

2-20-2018 Construction Update

Now only three months from being completed, much of the casework and fixtures have been installed throughout the academic wing. Kitchen appliances have arrived and are also being installed. The auditorium is really starting to take shape as the concrete floor has been installed, as have the acoustical panels on the undersides of the cat walks. Painting is wrapping up on the second floor of the academic wing and work has begun to outline the giant image of Cruiser that will be embedded into the dining commons terrazo floor.

11-3-17 Construction Update

It is hard to believe that November is already upon us, and we will be moving into the new high school in less than eight months.

All of the exterior brickwork is complete, and workers are busy installing the exterior windows and doors. Crews are completing the rough grading of areas in immediate proximity to the school, which has enabled the installation of some of the sidewalks.

05-25-17 New High School Construction Update

It’s hard to believe that just a year ago there was a big pile of dirt where the new high school was to be constructed. Today, more than 90 percent of the concrete block work is complete and more than 15 percent of the exterior brickwork is complete. It’s amazing how far we’ve come in such a short time.

03-31-17 Construction Update

Only a year ago we were just about to begin construction of the new Groveport Madison High School. Now, more than 220,000 concrete blocks have been laid, 370 tons of steel has been installed and the first floor structural work is nearing completion. The gymnasium and athletic wing are already under roof and plumbers, HVAC installers and electricians are busy running pipe, ductwork and wiring in the northernmost portion of the building.
