Remembering a special -- and brave -- teacher

ensign dedication

Members of Groveport Madison High School student council paid special tribute to their late teacher Kristine Ensign the past week. The students dedicated a new spirit rock garden at the school in her memory.
Ms. Ensign, an accounting teacher and softball coach, passed away in April after fighting a very strong battle with a rare form of skin cancer called Angiosarcoma. She was diagnosed in February 2010.
More than two years ago, GMHS students created Ensign's Entourageto help raise money for their beloved teacher's treatments. By November 2011, more than $9,000 was raised. She is deeply missed.

Library's new initiative puts books in students' hands

Columbus Metropolitan Library is offering Groveport Madison Schools a new type of library card for all elementary students and weekly delivery of CML books to each elementary school with its Kids Card program.

The Kids Card is available to youth age 17 and younger, will provide students with the following:

  • Ability to check out up to 3 children's books at a time with no overdue fines or fees
  • Access to the library's Homework Help Centers
  • Access to Columbus Metropolitan Library computers
  • Access to online learning and research tools
This library card will provide students with access to resources and services that will help build a foundation for a successful life. The district will work with CM Library staff to develop a plan to quickly and efficiently distribute the new library cards to students. At the same time, CML will provide a brief information sheet for parents which describes the new card.

The Columbus Library is also providing weekly school delivery of its books to students and staff at each elementary building. Students and teachers may request items from the CML collection to be delivered to their school building. Books will be dropped off and returned in a location inside each building. Columbus Metropolitan Library's goal is to facilitate access to CML books for Groveport Madison students to support reading.

The district is pleased to work with the library and thanks its leadership for for supporting our schools. This partnership offers another opportunity for our students to be successful.
