Comprehension
We answer questions about the texts that we read. We learn to look for a
variety of factors that help us understand our stories, texts, and poems.
Fluency
We read the same passage for time every day for 4 or 5 days. We can see
how reading the same words over and over makes us faster and more
accurate readers.
Vocabulary
We always discuss new words that are in our stories, texts, and poems.
Phonemic Awareness
We use many different kinds of activities to learn how to manipulate the sounds
of our language.
Phonics
We use a system called Touch Phonics, and a set of Secret Stories to learn
about how the sounds of our language relate to written symbols.
