What is Public School Choice (SES)?

School Improvement Status
At the conclusion of each school year, every school in the district is assigned a School Improvement Status.Those ratings include: OK, At Risk, and School Improvement Years 1 – 9. Title I served buildings identified in need of School Improvement are required to offer Public School Choice/Supplemental Educational Services.

What is Public School Choice (PSC)?

Title I funded schools in School Improvement year 1 must offer its students the option of Public School Choice (PSC). Public school choice is a provision of the No Child Left Behind Act that allows parents to transfer their child out of schools that are identified as “in need of improvement” into schools that are not identified. Schools are required to provide you with notification that your child’s school has not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two consecutive years and is identified for school improvement prior to the beginning of the year following identification.

What is Supplemental Educational Services (SES)?
Title I served schools that receive a rating of School Improvement Status year 2 or higher must offer students a choice of either Public School Choice or Supplemental Services.Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are additional academic instruction designed to increase the academic achievement of students in schools that have not met State targets for increasing student achievement for three or more years. SES services may include tutoring and after-school services.

Which Schools Qualify for PSC/SES for the 2011-2012 School Year?
The Groveport Madison Schools eligible to receive PSC students and who must offer PSC/SES changes every year.The district sends out a letter before school starts each year notifying parents of the School Improvement Status and the options available for students.Please note that due to overcrowding conditions district-wide, not all elementary schools are available to accept additional students and there may not be availability at certain grade levels.

2011 – 2012 Elementary and Secondary Education Act: PSC/SES Data
 Asbury, Glendening, and Sedalia students are eligible for PSC/SES and Groveport Elementary students are eligible for PSC.Available schools to transfer to for the 2011 – 2012 school year are Dunloe and Madison Elementary. The number of eligible students for PSC for 2011-2012 is 1783 and the number of students who participated is 20.The number of eligible students for SES for 2011-2012 is 1166. Of those, 156 participated in SES through the following providers: A to Z in Home Tutoring, Center Education and Mentoring, Channel Learning Center, Club Z in Home Tutoring, Community Threads, Creative Education, Sylvan Learning Center (Grove City), and Tutoring by Teachers. The district’s per pupil allocation for 2011-2012 is $1331.53.

2010- 2011 Elementary and Secondary Education Act: PSC/SES Data
Asbury, Glendening, and Sedalia students were eligible for PSC/SES.Available schools to transfer to for the 2010 – 2011 school year were Dunloe, Groveport, and Madison Elementary. The number of eligible students for PSC was1460 and the number of students who participated was 25.The number of eligible students for SES was 949.Of those, 82 participated in SES through the following providers: A to Z in Home Tutoring, Center Education and Mentoring, Club Z in Home Tutoring, Creative Education, H.A.N.D. Tutoring, Sylvan Learning Center (Grove City), and Tutoring in Your Home. The district’s per pupil allocation for 2010-2011 was $1494.83.
