She and her husband David have two sons at the high school, classes of 2010 and 2011. Prior to moving to Groveport, the Gillespies lived in Reynoldsburg, Columbus and Annandale, Virginia. She was raised in Dayton OH and graduated from Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management-Hotel Administration from The Ohio State University in 1989.
Since 2000, Mrs. Gillespie has worked for the Columbus Metropolitan Library system. Currently she is the Youth Services Library Assistant at the Whitehall branch, providing exceptional information and programming service to children in pre-K through high school, both in the branch and at the Whitehall area schools. She has worked with the Youth Services staff to provide training to Central Ohio parents and caregivers in the six pre-reading skills every child needs before beginning Kindergarten. For the 2009-2010 school year she is a volunteer at Asbury Elementary's Homework Club, a volunteer for Spanish I students at the High School, and Helping Hands volunteer coordinator at the High School. She encourages all community members to share their time and talents by volunteering in some capacity in their neighborhood school, in order to see the promise of our students.
These are exciting times for Groveport Madison Schools and Mrs. Gillespie looks forward to a positive working relationship with the other members of the Board, the community and all stakeholders, as we work together toward an Excellent rating by the Ohio Department of Education and help all our students prepare for college, vocation, and service to others. Her vision of public education at Groveport Madison Schools is simple and will be her guide in decision-making during the next four years: Every student engaged, every parent involved, and our community united.
