Tuesday, September 28th Picture Day

Friday, October 1st - PTO Walkathon, please dress your child in weather appropriate attire and tennis shoes.  They are also allowed to bring a bottle of water.
Reading
This week we are reading the story Days with Frog and Toad.  Our focus lesson will be on retelling the story. 

We are also working on Read to Self with our I-Pick boxes of books (ask your child how to pick a book on their level).  We are working on building our stamina each day to read to ourselves.  So far we have gotten to 3 1/2 minutes with uninterupted time.  Way to go students!  We will try to build up to 30 minutes by the end of 2nd grade.

Language Skills
Language skills we are working on this week are naming parts of sentences (also known as the subjects of the sentence).

For example, in the sentence:
   Robby likes to ride his bike.
The naming part of the sentence is Robby because he is the person doing the action.
Math Skills
Math Skills being worked on this week include:

   - creating a color pattern
   - geometric shapes, sorting by attributes
   - writing number sentences
   - dividing shapes in half
   - dividing squares in half in two different ways
Science
We are starting a new unit on Habitats in Science on Monday, September 27th.  We will be studying the differences between frogs and toads, spiders and bears.  Students will have many chances to read through nonfiction books on all of these topics as we learn each one.  Have your child read up on frogs and toads through library books or the internet. 
Meet Mr. Fosnaugh
Just as an introduction, my name is Mr. Steve Fosnaugh, 2nd grade.  I attended Capital University and graduated in 2001 with my bachelor degree.  I graduated from Marygrove College in 2006 with my masters in teaching degree.  I have a wonderful fiance and three soon to be step-daughters, a dog and three cats.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns through our main phone number.   
Social Studies
We will only be working on Science for the next month due to our Habitat units.  Students may practice working on coordinate graphing at home.
